The FDA does not legally require sodium metabisulfite to be listed in a product’s ingredients if there are 10 parts per million or fewer of the preservative in the product. Many people are allergic to sulfites and do not know that sodium metabisulfite is used in coconut products, including non-dairy, coconut desserts.
